Planning a cake smash?

Have you begun thinking about your little one’s first birthday? If you have, it’s time to reach out! I am here to help plan and capture your little ones very first birthday milestone.

To choose the perfect photography window lets work backwards. First, When do you need the images by? This will help to determine when the best time to photograph would be and how far in advance we need to plan. If you need them in time for a party or celebration or even just to post on the day of their birthday. I suggest photographing at least 2-3weeks prior to when you need them. This gives us plenty of time to plan, photograph and then you will receive your gallery and still have me to allow for printing portraits or an album for your little one’s special day. Second, Do you have a theme for the party or color preferences? Here are a few ideas to incorporate into your sessions theme or even the party: Childs favorite toy or stuffy, nursery or baby shower theme, favorite food, family hobby or business, favorite book just to name a few.

I plan the set up of each cake smash according to your color choices, party theme and preferences. I always start with Birthday portraits and end with the cake. Even when specific colors or themes are requested I make sure your session, setup and cake is unique to your session.

What does the session include?

I do my best to keep these sessions as relaxed as possible for the parents. I take care of wardrobe, cake and decor. I plan everything so all you need to do is relax and have fun celebrating your child’s first birthday.

I work closely with a local baker who delivers each and every unique cake to the studio. They are fresh, beautiful and most importantly delicious!!

I have a balloon artist who supplies garlands and specialty balloons to help make the setup beautiful and on point with your theme. These balloons are high quality and they will go home with you at the end of the session. Some lasting for weeks or even months after we photograph if kept in the proper conditions.

On the day of the session plan to get messy! Sometimes mom ends up covered in more cake than the baby.

What if baby doesn't like the cake? No biggie, I photograph milestone portraits before we get into the cake portion of the session. I will make sure to get some amazing portraits of your little one and in the event they hate the cake… I roll with it. This is all new to them, the experience, the texture and flavors, the fact that we want them to get messy when we usually do our best to keep their cute clothes clean. Sometimes they feel like its a trick and I have my own tricks to help capture their personality whether they enjoy the cake or not. Every session is different and never completely predictable once we set that cake down. Trust in the process and just have fun.
