The spring family photo session

I always love photographing the Carters and how fun it is to watch them interact with each other. The style of photos we take is so fun every time and the kids are a blast to work with!

Especially during this round of family photos, their boys were hilarious. A highlight of the session was when a random dog started eating graham crackers out of mom’s purse while we were taking photos! The whole family laughed hysterically - you can see their laughter at the beginning of the session when mom was cracking up and looking away from the camera!

The dad, Andy, is actually a well-known real estate agent in Long Beach - you can check out his work @andydanecarter on Instagram. He brought along his drone videographer to film the session, which was fun and unique! Being an Orange County family photographer never gets boring and I love getting to work with so many different families and types of clients.

One of the best parts of taking spring family photos is the beautiful weather we get in the springtime in Cali. The sun is out and it’s not too hot yet, so the temperature is usually amazing especially for family photos where you’re moving around a lot. You won’t get sweaty but the sun will still most likely be out and shining!

2. Blooming flowers

Obviously spring is the best season if you want beautiful flowers in your family portraits! I know many locations where we can go for bright, blooming flowers in the spring, including the location we went to for the Carters’ Seal Beach family photos.

3. Yummy lighting

Finally, spring is great for amazing afternoon and sunset lighting. Whether you’re at the beach or in a field of flowers, the way the sun sets in the spring is perfect for family photos.

Inspiration for your family photo outfits

The Carters chose great outfits for their family photos, so take family photo outfit inspiration from them!

Mom’s pants were my fave - loose white pants with pink floral print, paired with a simple white tee. The boys wore shades of blue that went perfectly with mom’s white - dad wore a sky blue collared shirt with khakis, and the boys wore both patterned and solid blue shades. Blue and white are always a great combination, especially with the pink floral accents that mom’s pants provided! I always suggest keeping your patterns to a minimum, and this family used their patterns perfectly.
